Frame size means the inner frame / glazing size, not the outer edge of the moulding.

The mat opening is slightly smaller than the artwork so it holds it in place.

How to use the professional calculator

Choose whether you measured the artwork, the inner frame or glazing size, or the visible mat opening. Then select the unit, mat width, overlap, catalogue and rounding method. The recommendation shows the calculated inner frame size together with the mat opening, border dimensions and applicable tolerances.

Understanding the result

Frame size means the inner frame or glazing size, not the outside dimensions of the moulding. Mat opening means the visible cut window. When a mat opening is entered, the artwork size is calculated as the opening plus the selected overlap on every edge. Nearby standards and rejected matches are shown for comparison, not as automatic ordering recommendations.

Before ordering

Ready-made frame dimensions and manufacturing tolerances vary between suppliers. Confirm the inner opening, rebate, glazing, mat opening and required overlap with the framer or manufacturer before placing an order.
